I've lost over 100# now. And I hate the way I look. Seriously. When I'm standing, the excess skin and remaining fat is hanging all over me. When I'm sitting, it is piled all around me. I didn't realize how awful I looked when I was sitting until my husband took a photo of me sitting on the couch. I'm posting it below so that you can see what I mean.
When I'm fat, I'm fat, and nobody expects anything less. Now that I've lost - and am losing - so much fat, my body is uglier than it was before. It makes me sick.
Don't write and tell me about exercise. For a whole lotta reasons, that's not the answer. What I have hanging on me isn't going away with a few push-ups...or a lot of whatever everybody does now.
Anyway, yeah - there is a down side to losing weight. Just thought you should know...

I do understand your frustration but lets be honest. We are all a bit more critical of ourselves than how others really see us. But then again what is most important is how we view ourselves so if this is something that is bothering you I suggest waiting until you reach goal weight and then getting the excess skin removed. I had a friend who had it removed and there are ways to get your insurance to pay for it. I wish you the best of luck with this.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your perspective Grace2882 :). This has been something I've hated ever since the first year when I lost the first 90#. At that time I stopped losing purposely because of it. Now I am losing without really trying because of the after-effects of last December's surgery...anyway, eating healthy is the big thing to me, I don't even have a goal weight :). If I keep losing (by choice or not), then I will have to do something about the skin issue I guess - not sure which is worse, the thought of surgery or living in a permanent baggy skin sack! Thanks again for the input and encouragement :).
ReplyDeleteTry to keep an eye on the big picture... You're healthier now, and your quality of life is so much better! Exercise won't do anything to help the excess skin, you're right about that! Lots and lots of powder...
ReplyDeleteThat's it, Connie...after my shower, a blow dryer set on cool for all the crevices, folds, and flaps...then a zinc oxide powder. I remember when I was thin and a shower took 15 minutes from start to dressed. Now it's at least twice that! and the more I lose (I lose a couple more #'s this week) the worse it gets. I'm not whining - I'm way too ticked off to whine :). I'm looking at undergarments now that are made for people who lose lots of weight...the good ones are EXPENSIVE but it might be the only way my clothes will look right on me.
ReplyDeleteFunny, my daughter and I were talking about this. I'm losing - very slowly and she said that then I won't have to worry about sagging skin...LOL I told her it depends on more than just the speed of weight loss - many other factors are involved too. I think that's why my mom won't lose weight - and she's said it too - she's scared of hanging skin folds...
ReplyDeleteThere are so many variables to whether you have sagging skin (age, genetics, amount lost, etc.)...I started out over 200# over where I would like to be and can't imagine how awful the skin situation would be if I were to lose it all! I hope that you won't have these issues and can simply enjoy your weight loss :).
